Construction of the Tartu Uspenski Cathedral started by the order of Peter I after the Northern War and it was consecrated in 1783. The church was established on the foundation of the Dominican Convent Church. It was initially built in the shape of a cross and was given its quadrangular shape in 1840. Interesting facts: – a chapel to St Isidor, who died as a martyr, was established in the church in the course of its extension; ‑ the Bolsheviks killed 19 innocent people in the cellar of Krediidikassa 80 years ago. Their victims, archpriests Bleive and Berzhanitski, are buried in Uspenski Church. https://www.visitestonia.com/en/tartu-uspenski-cathedral-of-the-estonian-apostolic-orthodox-church
Father & Son sculpture: “Unveiled on Kuuni Street in Tartu on Child Protection Day on 1 June 2004, this bronze sculpture by Ulo Oun (1944-1988) is said by his widow Inara Oun to portray the sculptor himself with a child taking after their son Kristjan at the age of 18 months. The sculpture was created in 1977 before being cast in bronze in 1987. It was originally designed to be erected in Tallinn, but Tartu City Government bought the sculpture in autumn 2001.” https://www.thingstodopost.org/10-monuments-statues-in-tartu-county-that-you-shouldn-t-miss-500338“𝒯𝒽𝑒𝓇𝑒 𝓌𝒶𝓈 𝒶𝓃 𝑒𝓂𝓅𝓉𝒾𝓃𝑒𝓈𝓈 𝒶𝒷𝑜𝓊𝓉 𝓉𝒽𝑒 𝒽𝑒𝒶𝓇𝓉 𝑜𝒻 𝓁𝒾𝒻𝑒; 𝒶𝓃 𝒶𝓉𝓉𝒾𝒸 𝓇𝑜𝑜𝓂.” ― 𝒱𝒾𝓇𝑔𝒾𝓃𝒾𝒶 𝒲𝑜𝑜𝓁𝒻 .
