Before Trayvon Martin, there was Oscar Grant. Oscar Grant, unarmed, was shot in the back by a white police office on the BART in San Francisco in 2009. A new movie about Oscar’s story called “Fruitvale Station” is coming out soon. New York artist LNY (Lunar New Year) was commissioned by the movie’s producer to create a mural to memorialize Oscar and to pique the public’s interest. For more on the story, go here: http://hyperallergic.com/75821/before-trayvon-martin-there-was-oscar-grant/ On July 9th, I witnessed LNY starting the mural and then I returned to WIlliamsburg to document the completed art piece on July 17th:

Everyone asks me how I know her. We met in Vietnam. This was a few years ago when her agent told her to get lost for about a year and do the experimentation with food that she loves to do. So, there she was in Saigon fusing Amerasian dishes and filling an otherwise average pub with her inventive cuisine. Fast forward to present-day Brooklyn where she has returned to the place that she loves and is trying to amaze and inspire foodies with her risky, creative, daring menu that only pleases. Fault can be found nowhere. Her food is something you must try. She is the reason I am a foodie and the person who has inspired me to be conscious of the artfulness and delicacy of every type of food I try now.
