CELTA: IMAGES FROM MATURIN, VENEZUELA

ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

Another CELTA course has come to a close, and as always it’s bittersweet to say goodbye to such wonderful people. I always gain such respect for the efforts trainees make. I also consider myself fortunate to have the opportunity to witness some of the most inspirational growing experiences imaginable. I love my job and am so grateful to be able to meet such incredible individuals who often teach me as much as I teach them. Farewell, Maturin!

Another view of Caracas from the plane. It looks like a toy model of a town, doesn’t it?

MATURIN: THE FINAL IMAGES

“To part is the lot of all mankind. The world is a scene of constant leave-taking, and the hands that grasp in cordial greeting today, are doomed ere long to unite for the the last time, when the quivering lips pronounce the word – ‘Farewell”

PHOTOGRAPHY 102: WHAT PHOTOGRAPHY MEANS TO ME

“When people look at my pictures I want them to feel the way they do when they want to read a line of a poem twice.”

“A great photograph is a full expression of what one feels about what is being photographed in the deepest sense and is thereby a true expression of what one feels about life in its entirety.”

“Good photographs are taken not with the camera. Good photographs are taken with Mind, Soul, Eyes, and Imagination where Eyes like a shutter, Mind like a lens, Imagination like an object and Soul like a canvas.”
Parveen Sharma

Practically everything, and I do mean EVERYTHING, is a “photo” to me. Even if it’s only a pen sitting on a desk. I see so much more than just a pen sitting on a desk. Or, is it that I ‘feel’ so much more…? I’m not sure. But I am slowly piecing together my feelings about photography. I always have a camera with me. Whether it’s my pro-Canon, my iPad, or my iPod Touch…I never leave home without one. If I ever did…unfortunately, I would feel a little less enthused about the moments I’d be experiencing…that may sound sad, but it’s the truth. I have to ‘know’ that I can photograph something at any moment. If I didn’t have a camera with me, I’d be so preoccupied with the thoughts of the possibility of missing something that I know I’d want to photograph…

MATURIN: A WALK AROUND WITH HIPSTAMATIC

Image

Every streetlight pole on an entire strip, had these Rodonski stickers plastered to them. Poor guy lost big time.

The largest house I’ve seen in Maturin. They say that the original owner who lived there, was the owner of all of the surrounding lands, a bit like a plantation. This land is now where my compound is on.

Beautiful palm trees line the streets.
