NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK STREET ART: MY MONTH WITH BANKSY~ “BLOCKED MESSAGES”
Today’s piece is a reaction to a rejected op-ed that Banksy tried to submit to the New York Times. You can read it at the bottom of the pictorial. It comes from his official website: Better Out Than In. Notice that the message on the wall is in view of the ‘new’ World Trade Center.

NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK STREET ART: MY MONTH WITH BANKSY ~ “TWIN TOWERS FLOWER EXPLOSION”
Depicted below in my customary varied films perspective (Hipstamatic on iPAD) is the newest piece from Banksy, located on Staple Street in Tribeca. Here is a stencil of the Twin Towers with what appears to be a Dahlia sticking out of it. The dahlia seems to represent the first explosion on 09/11/01, plus flowers generally symbolize hope. From a website on flowers and meanings, it says this about the dahlia:
Dahlia’s are spicy flowers, and their meanings range from a sign of warning, to change, to travel, to even a portent of betrayal. The varied symbolic meanings of the dahlia make this flower a wild card.

QUEENS, NEW YORK STREET ART: MY MONTH WITH BANKSY ~ “WHAT WE DO IN LIFE ECHOES IN ETERNITY”
Banksy’s newest piece uses a quote from the movie, “Gladiator.” I definitely think this piece is directed towards the taggers, bombers, and haters of his residency thus far. You have a guy wiping away the paint, besmirching the image. And the line reads as something quite karmic, if you ask me. Banksy’s telling these guys (and all Banksy haters) that their destructive ways will manifest for eternity. What’s in your soul now, will be in your soul forever.

NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK STREET ART: MY MONTH WITH BANKSY ~ “CLIMBING FENCES”
Apparently, the barbed wire above the gate was a new addition, proving that Banksy wanted people to stay out of this showpiece. However, these pictures show that where there’s a will there’s a way and some guys did still venture through the small opening between the gate and the wall. These guys were innocent and just wanted to take pictures, but I will say that the crowd gasped every time someone climbed the fence, for fear that they were graffiti writers defending their turf and once over and through the fence, they were going to have accomplices hand them some spray paint. But, luckily, that didn’t happen in these instances.
