SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA: 浪人

“The way you write ronin is with the character for wave and the character for person, which is pretty much how I feel, like a little wave person, floating around on the stormy sea of life.”

Suma-ku is one of nine wards of Kobe. It has a lengthy stretch of sand, so it is a popular beach location in the summer. The beach has appeared in several Japanese classics, for example, “Genji Monogatari,” (Tale of the Genji.)

VANCOUVER IMAGES: ACCEPT YOUR ALONENESS

“It’s no good trying to get rid of your own aloneness. You’ve got to stick to it all your life. Only at times, at times, the gap will be filled in. At times! But you have to wait for the times. Accept your own aloneness and stick to it, all your life. And then accept the times when the gap is filled in, when they come. But they’ve got to come. You can’t force them.”
D.H. Lawrence, Lady Chatterley’s Lover
