In 1975-76, the Rolling Stones were on tour in the USA and they stayed for a bit at Andy Warhol’s “Eothen” compound in Montauk, New York. Story has it that they spent a lot of time down the road at this motel, The Memory Motel, because it was supposedly the only place in town with a pool table and a piano. Really? Warhol had five houses at Eothen, but no piano or pool table? Anyway, here are some Stones’ lyrics from the song Memory Motel that is featured on their “Black and Blue” album, inspired by this place:
We spent a lonely night at the memory motel
It’s on the ocean, I guess you know it well
It took one starry night to steal my heart away…
