Thanks so much! Those are two very good ideas and my mind is spinning now about self publishing a ‘Bikes of Japan’ book. Do you really think people would be interested in a book just showing pictures of bikes against various backdrops? The more I think about this, the more appreciative I am of the fact that never once, not at all, has a bike ever been ‘staged’ for a photo. Every photo of bikes on my blog are ‘as is’ in normal everyday life, and to me, these images represent so much about the life and culture of this complex country. Flower pots, graffiti, child seats…just so much…
Well maybe I’m biased but I think bicycles are sooo cool. Ubiquitous, colorful, democratic. A very old (and yet very modern) form of transportation. I find that whenever I’m looking at your posts, my eye (almost magnetically) is drawn to your bicycle images. Sometimes they are the focal point of the photo, but they add something special even if they are only in the background or part of a larger scene.
So yeah, I think the idea of putting a group of your bicycle images together would be a great idea. Be interested in hearing if anyone else thinks is a cool thought. (btw, there’s a great Katie Melua song called “Nine Million Bicycles” — which would form the perfect soundtrack to a gallery show or book publication party!!!) You should check it out.
