The Martyrs’ Statue in Martyrs’ Square in central Beirut “commemorates Lebanese nationalists who were hung during World War l by the Ottomans.”  – The statue, riddled with bullet holes, has become a symbol for all that was destroyed during the Lebanese Civil War. (wiki)
