In 1995’s Great Hanshin Earthquake, Japan’s Hyogo Prefecture was destroyed, especially specific areas in Kobe. In an effort to rebuild their community and to gain a symbol of strength in the aftermath, Wakamatsu Park (5 minute walk from Shin-Nagata Station) became home to a 59 foot statue of “Gigantor,” Tetsujin 28, the famous Manga character from 1956’s “Tetsujin 28-go” by Mitsuteru Yokoyama.
It is huge and serves as a symbol of rebirth and strength for the area after the tragedy, as well as being a popular tourist site.

I absolutely LOVE this….!
LOL ! It’s very cool, yes !
Tetsujin 28 is the best! I saw a toy Tetsujin hanging out in a basket of coal once, down Pontocho in Kyoto. He made my trip.
You’re definitely going to enjoy your next trip to Kobe, then ! 😉
