KYOTO LIVE DOJO: RE FROM TOKYO

Re started with a very red “Vietnamese-communist-looking” piece, but changed his mind halfway through, painted over it, and did what you can see, is the final result below. Still very much in stylized ‘communist propaganda’ drawing of what I was used to seeing in Vietnam. But that could very much not be his intent at all. It’s just what is conjured up in my mind when I look at it. He was actually the artist closest to the booming speakers (DJs played sets) and he said that the music was inspiring him to scratch what he intended and to do something new. The guitar definitely became the focal point in the final piece. “Esperar” means to wait, to hope, to expect,” in Spanish and similar languages. If I had to guess, I’d say he was aiming for the “hope.”
