In 1887, the overseas Chinese community living in Kobe, established Kanteibyo. It is dedicated to Guan Yu, a famous Chinese warrior from the Three Kingdoms Period. He is known to the Japanese as Kan-u. On 5 June 1945, Kanteibyo was destroyed by allied bombing in WWll. On 16 January 1977, it was destroyed by fire, and then again, in 1995, it was damaged by the Kobe earthquake. The last restoration was 14 February 1999. Wow! Beautiful photos of one of my ‘wish list places’. I love the colours in the photos of the dragons!
Thanks, Cos! I have to say the perfect blue sky really helped make the dragons look soooo crisp and colorful…
Ok, no dog in the window but were those ceramic dogs at the temple or were they lions?
Haha! I’d say these are lions…
Well there the most doggy looking lions I’ve seen for a temple. One or more of your images has what I would say qualifies as a lion. Fierce!
Very nice photographs.
Good evening.
Thank you so much!!
