NYC GRAFFITI: U-100 N

I think this is talking about Humulin (human insulin) for diabetes, but I don’t know what the artist is trying to say with the various stickers and paste-ups. They are all around the city, especially, the East Village and Lower East Side, some in Brooklyn, too:ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

  1. Whatever the artist wanted to say here, these pictures have a certain beauty, partially because of their mysteriousness:-)
I see this in the tradition of Warhol’s “Campbell’s Tomato Soup”. Maybe that is what it is saying: the consumerist system first gives us industiral food (canned food, jnk food etc.). Diabetes is then the result. (Just an idea, whoever made this might have had something completely different in mind).

    1. I think you have something there. My first take on it was that it is statement about our processed food and sugar addiction and how so many Americans are taking and will be taking this drug. Clever.
